“Having been influenced by the places I have lived, my travels, and my experiences in life, my work has evolved over time. I have always searched for the beauty in everyday life, whether it is in painting, nature, decorating, setting the dinner table, or cooking.
Painting has been my way of creating beauty on my own terms. When I paint, I want my artwork to be pleasing, happy and offer a sense of calmness. I mainly enjoy painting landscape, seascapes, and figures, but I occasionally will paint flowers and still life. Even though oil is my preferred medium, I enjoy working in different media.
I feel I am evolving as an artist. I am constantly changing the way I paint colors and the size of the brush strokes on my canvas. I love textured paintings and the smell of linseed oil and turpentine! Presently, my goal is to paint every day, even if it is only for a short time.
I feel myself moving in new directions and I am no longer satisfied with realistic portrayals. I am trying different techniques and discovering which ones work for me. I want fresh, vibrant colors and interesting marks…happy accidents, if you will.
I have also become fascinated with the Abstract Expressionists and love reading the how and why of their works.
I enjoy so many aspects of painting and art other than the physical aspect of painting. I love volunteering at a museum and discussing the various artists and their paintings.
I love painting En Plein Air, as well as painting in my studio. Working in my studio is my joy…it is my true calling. It is my sanctuary. It is my little bit of heaven.”
